Why are there so many ice cream summer coloring pages?
Ice cream has an official place on the American summer calendar. The National Archives explains that Congress passed a joint resolution naming July 1984 National Ice Cream Month and July 15 National Ice Cream Day. President Ronald Reagan signed Proclamation 5219 on July 9, 1984. Ice cream is "enjoyed by over ninety percent of the people in the United States," the proclamation says.
That gives a reason to color the , the and the in July. A cone with three scoops also makes a good first lesson in choosing colors.
How do you color summer coloring pages so they look sunny and bright?
Pick a few strong, warm colors and leave some white. The sun looks hotter with a yellow center and an orange edge. Leave a thin white line along the top of each wave, and the water suddenly sparkles. Sand looks real in light tan with a few dots of brown pressed on top.
For water, start pale blue near the shore and get darker toward the horizon. Ice cream is the fun part: give each scoop its own flavor color, then add a darker shade where it meets the cone. On the night pages, color the sky deep blue and leave the fireflies white or pale yellow, so they glow. On the mandalas, use the colors of one day at the beach, such as sky, sea, sand and coral, ring by ring.
Summer coloring pages keep kids busy on rainy days, road trips and vacation.
A stack of sheets and a box of crayons travel well. Clip a few easy pages to a board for the car, or save the busy scenes for a rainy afternoon at a rental cabin. The page is a fun one to color while you are actually on one.
