Free printable cute coloring pages are full of big eyes, round faces and happy smiles.
These free printable cute coloring pages give animals, pumpkins, boats and princesses big eyes, round faces and happy smiles. Toddlers get one smiling shape per page. Kids get cute animals and little stories, like dinosaurs hatching or a princess tea party. Adults get cute scenes with more detail, from a mushroom village to a moonlit web. There is also the science of why big eyes look cute, from a study in the journal Ethology, and tips for coloring cute faces.
The simplest cute pages are one friendly face.
Cute coloring pages for toddlers and preschool are one big, smiling shape.
The is a spotted baby with a long neck and a wide grin. The turns a jack-o'-lantern into a friendly face. The sits up with huge eyes and a tiny nose to fill.
Even objects get faces here. The smiles over the waves, and the zips over the grass. The wears a heart tiara and a sweet smile. Once a child likes one face, a whole cute scene is the next step.
Cute coloring pages for kids tell small, happy stories with animals.
The pop out of spotted eggs in a leafy nest. The chews a fluffy slipper by the couch. The sits on a rock with an open book. The stands in a flower meadow under a big rainbow.
The pours tea for a teddy bear and a bunny. Like every character here, she is our own design, not a Disney princess. Our princess coloring pages and dinosaur coloring pages hold many more cute scenes. Teens and adults often like cute pages too, just with more to color.
Cute coloring pages for adults add detail without losing the charm.
The carries an acorn through a village of mushroom houses. The follows a mother duck and her ducklings past lily pads and a little bridge. The shelters under a leaf on a lily pad in the rain.
The floats on puffy clouds with birds all around. The smiles from its web in front of a full moon. For cute pages drawn in the kawaii style, see our kawaii coloring pages. All these pages share the same big eyes and round shapes, and there is a reason they work.
Why do big eyes and round faces look so cute?
Scientists call it baby schema. The idea comes from the ethologist Konrad Lorenz, who described a set of baby features that people see as cute: a large head, a round face and big eyes. A 2009 study in the journal Ethology, led by Melanie Glocker, tested the idea with real photos of babies.
The team adjusted the faces to look rounder or narrower. Then 122 university students rated the rounder faces with higher foreheads as cuter. They also said they felt more like caring for those babies. That is why a dinosaur, a pumpkin or a tugboat looks sweet the moment it gets big eyes and chubby cheeks. Those same features are the ones to color with care.
How do you color cute coloring pages so the faces stay sweet?
Keep the eyes simple: fill them dark, but leave the little white circles in the eyes blank. Add a soft pink blush on each cheek with light pressure, in a small round patch. Then color the face in one gentle, even shade, so nothing distracts from the eyes.
Pastels suit cute pages best: mint, peach, lilac, sky blue and butter yellow. Save one bright color for a single detail, like a red bow or a yellow star. A plain pastel background keeps the character the star of the page.
From a little dinosaur to a hedgehog's mushroom village, these free printable cute coloring pages keep big eyes and happy smiles at every age. Pick a face you love, and give it rosy cheeks and a soft pastel world.
