Which parts of a panda are black?
The Smithsonian's National Zoo explains that a giant panda has black fur on its ears, eye patches, muzzle, legs and shoulders. The rest of the coat is white. So color the ears, the patches around the eyes, the nose area, all four legs and a band across the shoulders black.
Leave the face, belly and back white. On the and , keep a small white spot in each eye patch so the eyes shine. The zoo adds that scientists are not sure why pandas are black and white. Some think the pattern works as camouflage, among dense bamboo and on snowy, rocky mountain slopes. The and show both settings.
How do you color panda fur so it looks soft?
Black areas look best in dark gray first, then black on top, with short strokes that follow the fur. That keeps them from looking flat. For the white fur, add just a hint of light gray at the edges and under the chin.
Color bamboo in two greens, with darker rings where the stalk joins. A pale blue or cream background makes the black and white stand out. Finished pandas then have plenty of uses.
Panda coloring pages make cards, bookmarks and a bamboo forest display.
A colored panda makes a sweet birthday card or thank-you note. Heavier cardstock helps the card stand on a shelf. Kids can cut out several pandas and stand them among paper bamboo stalks for a forest display.
